Noah Webster's New International Dictionary of the English Language 1. (p. pr. & vb. n.) of Stammer. 2. (a.) Apt to stammer; hesitating in speech; stuttering. 3. (n.) A disturbance in the formation of sounds. It is due essentially to long-continued spasmodic contraction of the diaphragm, by which expiration is presented, and hence it may be considered as a spasmodic inspiration.
