Easton's Bible Dictionary

When used with reference to Jordan, signifies in the writings of Moses the west side of the river, as he wrote on the east bank (Genesis 50:10, 11; Deuteronomy 1:1, 5; 3:8, 20; 4:46); but in the writings of Joshua, after he had crossed the river, it means the east side (Joshua 5:1; 12:7; 22:7).

Noah Webster's New International Dictionary of the English Language

1. (prep.) On the further side of; in the same direction as, and further on or away than.

3. (prep.) Past, out of the reach or sphere of; further than; greater than; as, the patient was beyond medical aid; beyond one's strength.

4. (prep.) In a degree or amount exceeding or surpassing; proceeding to a greater degree than; above, as in dignity, excellence, or quality of any kind.
